Rabbits are truly unique little creatures! They communicate to us in strange ways but once you understand the basics... it becomes easier to understand what your little bun is trying to say to you.
Rabbits have scent glands under their chins. When they are out exploring, you will often see them rub their chin on anything and everything. It is their way of saying "MINE...that's mine! Oh and this too! Mine, mine, mine!" It is not uncommon for a rabbit to rub their chin on you and to claim you as property. We are their slaves after all!
When rabbits are feeling threatened or startled they will stomp their hind legs on the ground. It is meant to warn others of possible danger. Depending on the situation a rabbit may also charge and potentially box or nip after a thump. Thumping may also occur when your rabbit wants to be let out of his/her cage or after treats are given being a sign that they want more.
Watching a rabbit binky is the thing that every 'rabbit slave' lives for. There is nothing quite like it! A binky signifies excitement, joy and pure happiness. Once you see this it is validation that you have provided a safe and loving environment for your rabbit. Congrats!
Seeing a rabbit flop is just wonderful. It is the rabbit showing that they are very comfortable and happy. Flopping beside you is a sign that they fully trust you and that your relationship is on its way to becoming that much more.
